Week of 18 Apr — 24 Apr

  1. What did you do this past week?

This week I had a research paper presentation for Cloud Computing on the Google File System. I’m glad I spent time preparing for it because it went very smoothly. I was also working on my Data Mining final project, and we made decent progress on it even though our dataset was challenging to work with.

2. What’s in your way?

I started getting some pain in my left wrist this week, so I made an appointment next week to get it checked out. I don’t think it's anything serious, but I just want to be sure.

3. What will you do next week?

This weekend I’m going to finish and turn in my Data Mining final project as well as work on my next Cloud Computing assignment. I’m planning to start working on Project 6, Life, next week as well.

4. What did you think of Paper 13. What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

Reading the different stories of harassment and discrimination in academia was really eye-opening. I will try to be more aware of both my actions and the actions of others in whatever organization I am a part of to make sure that everyone feels safe and welcome.

5. What was your experience of r-value references, move constructor, and move assignment? (this question will vary, week to week)

This was my first time learning about r-value references, as well as move constructors and move assignments. The two exercises we did helped me understand more in-depth how they behave and it was nice to see a lot of symmetry in the code.

6. What made you happy this week?

I went to Sushi Junai 2 with some friends this week, and we ate 14 rolls and a bunch of other food. I haven’t eaten that much before in a long time — it was great.

7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I like creating generative art and music, so I thought I would suggest checking out someone who inspired me recently: https://twitter.com/alexis_o_O. According to her posts, Aleksandra uses Processing and p5.js to create her algorithmic art.
